Offshore Ferndale Earthquake Magnitude 6.5 Saturday, Jan 9, 2010 4:27 pm Notes:

Saint Joseph’s Hospital. The worst injury being a hip fracture. Mostly cuts and bruises otherwise.

PG&E reports 10 gas problems or leaks. As of Sunday 1/10, two of the ten have been repaired. Power outages impacted more than 25,000 in Eureka and Fortuna primarily. Mad River Hospital on emergency power, no damage, but some lights unavailable except in critical areas of the hospital. One out of five skilled nursing facilities without power. Two out of two Intermediate Care Facilities without power. Most power restored by “early Sunday”. PG&E Contacts: Jana Morris, J.D. Guidi, David Eisenhauer

The Bayshore Mall was the scene for several injuries caused by ceiling and light fixture damage and contents falling. Water damage due to sprinklers there.

1 apartment in Eureka with 9 to 14 residents was evacuated.

1 business and 2 commercial buildings were declared unsafe and uninhabitable.

In Eureka on Summer Street, a two story house experienced two broken water pipes.

Most damage occurred at Bayshore Mall, Old Town Bar and Grill, Carson Block Building. Three red-tagged buildings and 1 yellow tag initially. Some re-evaluated and tags revised later.

“Several” chimneys damaged.

One home off its foundation – see images on California St.

College of the Redwoods hazmat team to investigate strong odors.
