Since Virginia only has 3 strong motion recording stations, initial Shakemaps had to rely heavily on computer simulations. USGS has decided to base later versions such as version 6 on Did you Feel It, Community Internet Intensity Map data, consolidated into zip codes, located at zip centroids and then rerunning Shakemap as if the CIIM data located at zip centroids were reasonable estimates of ground motions resulting in potentially faster convergence with ground truthing than Shakemap can in the absence of additional recorded motions.</description>
