Welcome to the Kumamoto, Japan Earthquake Virtual Clearinghouse


 

On Friday, April 15, a M7.0 earthquake struck north of Kumamoto, on the island of Kyushu in southwest Japan (1:25am local time on Saturday, April 16). The EERI community extends its sympathy to the victims as rescue and relief work continues.

EERI has set up this virtual clearinghouse website as part of its Learning from Earthquakes Program and it will be a central location for data collected by colleagues, members, collaborators and contributors. EERI is also contacting members and colleagues in Japan for information and observations.

This earthquake follows a M6.2 earthquake on Thursday April, 14 (9:26pm local time) with damage described on the USGS site.
